Anyone have any idea how to get rid of lawn weeds without damaging the lawn?

I think you need lawn weedkiller, but be sure to spray only the weeds. If you spray the whole lawn, you could end up damaging your grass.

If you don't mind a bit of hard work now, to save some in the future, you can pull the weeds out before they go to seed, and that will lessen the amount you have to deal with next season. Just be vigilant, and pull out whenever they pop up, and soon there'll be none left.
Although at first it's a LOT of hard work, I have to say that Johnny is right. An aggresive weeding regime now will save time, and chemical damage, in the future, and some weeds are resistant to weedkillers, or require specialist herbicides.

OK... although 'hard work' isn't usually in my vocabulary (:p) I'm gonna give the weeding a go. Thanks for the advice.

The "hard work" always give you the advantages at the end of the day. That is the good way to keep your lawn in natural atmosphere. Only go for chemical or power tools if you have a big lawn or for commercial usage.

Some lawn weeds may require treatment from a herbicide. Dandelions, for example, have very long, verticle roots, and if the whole root isn't pulled up, can regrow. Sometimes it's better to just hit these with a small shot of herbicide, rather than digging holes in your lawn trying to remove the roots.

You can use Preen, it is a weed growth preventative.
Preventing weeds is the most effective way to stop the spread of weeds. Preen does it without damaging your plants.

Try spraying your yard with a lawn herbicide 3X a year. Doing this should control most if not all the weeds for the year. Aply a fertilizer application a week after each herbicide application. Eventually, the thicker and healthier the lawn-the less chance for weeds to infest.
