Here is a tip regarding changing the water for your pond or fountain:
1. You need to change the water every 4-6 months. This is recommended by most manufacturer
There are few ways to change the water
1. Disassemble
2. Pumping the water out
3. Siphoning

For ponds with fish in, depending on the amount of fish, you should change 20-25% of the water every 1 week- 1 month. Testing nitrate levels helps, as it's mainly nitrates that you are trying to remove.

Ok here is the detail description on the methods
1. Disassemble - this is for a small fountain or pond. Disassemble it and discard the water.
2. Pumping the water out – this is the easiest way to remove water from a large fountain or pond. Use an extra pump or the existing pump to remove the water.
3. Siphoning – this method is applicable for a small fountain. You need a plastic tube. Place one end in the fountain or pond and you “suck” the water out with your mouth through the other end.
