Hi all,
I recently put a small pond in my back garden (approx 1 1/2 m square, and about 1 m deep). I have a few plants, and my son (very kindly) added some frogs from a nearby friend's pond, but I have a small question. If I were to add 2-3 small goldfish (or similar) would it be necessary to get a filtration system? Any advice would be welcome.

Definately, yes, you need a filter. I had a pond with a few goldfish type things in, and I didn't know at the time that I needed a filter. End result - Stagnant water, and 2 dead fish. Oh and an awful smell and clouds of flies. Algae is another problem I had, but that can be skimmed out with a net.

One thing to consider if you mean small as in 'your average 1-2 inch fish', is that a lot of pond pumps/filters will be too strong for this size fish, and could damage or kill them if the current sucks them in, so consult an expert before buyng.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I've bought a filtration system, and my new fish, Pinky and Perky are very happy in their new home
