Currently my pond is polluted by a massive green alge. I clean it many times but it continues to come every 2-3 days. Anyone here have an idea to keep it from happening so frequently?

Thanks

Take a look at this Danny. It may help solve your problem.

As the website in Frank's link suggests, a UV filter would help immensely if the problem is as bad as your post suggests. There are some liquid suppliments you can add to the water that 'claim' to kill off algae, but I've never used them myself, and so can't vouch for their effectiveness.

Oh try introducing floating plants like water lily... It is to cut donw the sunlight supplied to the algae.

I would like to suggest a natural treatment. I agree with Creature. Try to put some other animal that love algae if you don’t want to put the lily, perhaps ducks? The idea is to create a natural ecosystem to the pond.

According to this, pondsolutions.com/algae-info.htm, there are 2 main factors that causes algaes :

1. Sunlight - This can be solved by growing water lilies or floating plants such as water hyacinths. Another option is by growing some trees or plants around the pond to block out sunlight.

2. Nutrient - Algaes need nutrient. To reduce nutrient in the pond, introduce some good bacteria into the pond that can breaks down fish waste to harmless nitrates. Do not use too much fish feed as uneaten feed will become nutrient for the algaes. Make sure your pond has enought oxygen supply.

I have also heard that there are fishes that eat algae, not sure what fish is it but you can check out your nearest pet shop.

Hope these help.

Not trying to prove anyone wrong, but...

According to this, pondsolutions.com/algae-info.htm, there are 2 main factors that causes algaes :

1. Sunlight - This can be solved by growing water lilies or floating plants such as water hyacinths. Another option is by growing some trees or plants around the pond to block out sunlight.

Adding plants near a pond will increase leaf-fall into the pond, increasing waste, and feeding the algae even more.

Nitrates are not 'harmless'. Nitrates are the chemicals released by fish faeces as it decomposes, and this will lead to rapid growth in the algae.

Thanks for the information correction, Darren. Yes, you do have a point. While trying to solve a problem, another came up. Something artificial, such as building a shade might do the trick but it destroy the natural atmosphere, maybe someone has better ideas?

As for the nitrates issue, I am not really sure about that as the information is from the website stated above. Do have a look if the solution makes sense.

Thank you

Something else to consider, is that by shading the pond, you're not only blocking out sunlight to the algae, but also any plants in the pond.
