Hydroponics?

Does anyone here have any experience growing things hydroponically? I've heard about it for years but have no direct knowledge myself. I thought maybe this might be something to consider trying out? From all of websites I've seen, it looks like it may be expensive to purchase all of the equipment. But maybe I'm wrong. I just don't know enough about it yet.
