Does anyone know of a decent Lanscape Design program? I'd like to design my garden myself.

Looking at UKGardeners post about dave's backyard problem, I think I recognise the program he's used, as I have it myself. Although it's pretty basic, it lets you add things like paths, patios, decking, plants, furniture etc, and best of all, it's completely free. Here's a link (http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/htbg2/virtual_garden/offline/garden_setup.exe) for anyone that wants to take a look.

Please note it requires Macromedia Shockwave (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFull&P2_Platform=Win32&P3_Browser_Version=Netscape6)

Correct Sweetpea, although the program itself doesn't allow you to store images of the plan, as far as I'm aware, but a decent screen capture program solves that. They did do an online version, but the link's been broken for a while now. Incidentally, the website that program comes from is a very useful resource for all types of gardening.

I downloaded the program from bbc.co.uk, and although, like you say, it's quite basic, it's perfect for my needs. I only want a general plan of the layout. I'll choose the plants once all the hard work's done. Thanks :)

Lorry,

A very simple to use and very inexpensive program to buy is 3D Home Architect Landscaping by Broderbund. This is a very user friendly program and is available on line or most computer stores like Staples.

Check this link for on line purchase pricing and availability:

In reply to Danny's quesiton about Auto-Cad .... YES, AutoCAD does have the ability to insert and scale plant symbols.

Most newer versions require you to either create them as .dwg files and import them or if you are lucky enough to have an old version AutoCad R14 it has plant symbols already in its database. I have used it for years with great success.

Good Luck,
Gary
