At my last house, I noticed carpentar ants taking over an area of my wooden retaining wall. This year at my new house I already have two bees nests I need to get rid of. If I get ants here, what should I do? Last time I tried to treat them myself with a store bought spray. Would it have been better if I called an exterminator. I'm so nervous of getting wood rott since I know replacing my retaining wall would cost a fortune.

I would call an exterminator any time you see carpenter ants. They can really cause a lot of damage to trees and wood.

I agree to what Patrick said. Don't leave carpentar ants untreated.
