I would like to share my opinion regarding lighting. I always hang out during night time so I do look around a bit. Here are few tips for lighting during night time for your landscape. I'll try to describe it as easy as I can.

1. Use green fluorescent spotlight
2. Place the spotlight on the ground facing your landscape
3. Make sure the is certain angle which the spotlight facing to

The result is quite interesting. Give it a try

I agree with you. Green lighting always looks much better on gardens, it's only natural. There's no white/yellow reflections from leaves, and gardens just don't look right in bright, artificial light. I use green lights in my garden, and they're great for people that like to photograph their gardens, as they leave the garden looking natural.

Abigail3 – yeah right! Green light create natural ambience. Photographers would appreciate that kind of lighting.

Mark – I’m not sure but I’ll try to ask my nearby hardware shop for home usage

Correct. The idea is to enhance the look of the surrounding greenery, not to drown everything out in a blanket of bright green glare. Try to go for the lowest wattage you can comfortably see in.

Incidentally, if you have a lot of sandy cloured features, like brickwork, paving, ornamental grasses etc, such as in this picture-

- a low wattage orange bulb will highlight these features without distorting the natural colours.
