Our yard is fairly bare. Alot of the homes where I live are new and some of the builders clear cut the lots before building so there aren't alot of trees around. Plus, many of the yards are completely square shaped with no landscape design to them at all. Our yard has some pine trees and one big magnolia. But, besides that, there really isn't too much going on. I need some suggestions on where to start. The front of the house is fine. The previous owners just didn't place too much importance on the backyard. It has a very cold look to it. I want the yard to feel warm and peaceful plus have a space my kids can play in.

I would highly recommend on addin a pondscape to your backyard. They're really easy to do by yourself. Most of the bigger name home stores sell everything you need. You don't even have to get a real large one. start off small and then add to the surrounding area.

I agree with adding either a pond or some type of water feature. I think you can deisgn it to become a focal point of your backyard. Then the rest of your landscape design will be easy. You'll just have to add some shrubs and flowers to different parts of the yard. But that will come in time.
