Most people like the way their homes look with accent lighting. It's a great way to show off your garden or landscape. However, landscape lighting can also be used for security purposes. Use only 40-60 watt bulbs along walkways and place higher wattage around entryways. And of course you can purchase motion sensors for your side yard or over your garage.

Motion sensors are definitely important. Sometimes we notice that neighborhood cats or other animals trip off the sensor but it's still a great idea. This way I'm not wasting electricity by leaving a light on continuously.

I definitely need to add some accent lighting to my home. There's one area in particular that is very dark. I'm always afraid someone can easily lurk around there without me knowing.
