Opinion needed

I need an opinion on this. I want to put a deck in my backyard, right off of the back door. I'll be replacing the back door with sliders. A buddy of mine is fairly handy, especially with carpentry. He has offered to help me build it and install the sliders. Should I pay him for his time in helping me or let it go since he's been a good friend for years?

I've helped many friends with tasks like these.

I never expect any payment, but you should at least offer. I doubt they will take you up on it. If he rejects your offer, then tell him that you'll have a cook-out sometime and have a few beers :)

Usually when a friend helps me with a project I'll offer to buy him a case of beer. Regardless if he accepts or not I'll let him know I "owe him one".

Even from a girls point of view, I say you owe him one after he helps you.
